Used as the emblem in the crest of the Herb Federation of New Zealand, borage originated in the Middle East and was associated with bravery. Herbalists believed that borage imparted a sense of well-being, and the Roman scholar Pliny considered it to be an antidepressant. The five-pointed brilliant blue flowers were once favorite subjects in needlework.

The Herb Federation of New Zealand is dedicated to promoting the knowledge, use and love of herbs through community educational programs, research, and sharing the experience of its members with the community.

Environmental Statement:
The Herb Federation is committed to protecting our environment for the health and well-being of New Zealanders and all growing things. We encourage members to practice environmentally sound gardening and herbalism.
